In the immediate vicinity of Odeonsplatz and the English Garden on one side and the museum area on the other, the site of the housing complex is situated amid a block perimeter development characteristic of Maxvorstadt.
The substance of the existing building dating from the 1960s requires a rebuilding of the front building. In its façade structure and classical design, the new building blends with the restrained ensemble of the listed historic buildings in Fürstenstrasse. The two bays on the 2nd and 3rd floors with the balconies on the 4th floor are a reference to the pre-war development of Friedrich Bürklein and the particular urban planning situation as end point of Rheinbergerstrasse, which at the Fürstenstrasse crossroads broadens to form a small square. On the courtyard side, there are generously-sized balconies and loggias. The existing development of the rear building is to be extended by a penthouse flat and a three-sided terrace.
The design of the façades is oriented on the surrounding development in their structure and materiality. A combed stucco structure and natural stone cladding on the ground floor raise the plinth area of the bright punctuated façade of the upper floors with stucco cornices and mouldings around the wood-aluminium windows. The façade cladding of the existing building and the storey-extension with a steel and wood construction with a metal skin reinterprets the construction within the district.
Building permission for the front and rear buildings was granted in March 2020.
