The existing run-down house and workshop-with-bunker in the backyard of an inner-city building development could not be preserved and was replaced by the new residential building. The whole area, which has been put under preservation order, required a sensitive approach to handling the new building structure.
The open atmosphere of the bright living room derives most of its character from the two-storey air-space in the kitchen and dining area. A Jacob’s ladder with a skylight for the zenit light connects the different levels. In contrast to the surrounding buildings, the façade of the inner-city building densification has large openings and is faced with bricks, which again emphasises the special character of the house.
